Gloria S. DePhilippe

Gloria S. DePhilippe (nee Urbani), age 96 of Ridley Park, passed away on Saturday March 1st with family by her side. Her parents emigrated from Italy and raised Gloria along with her twin sister and older brother in Chester and Eddystone. She graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Chester and earned her cosmetology license from Wilford Beauty Academy of Philadelphia. She operated Twins Beauty Shop in Eddystone with her father and twin sister until 1954. Gloria met her husband, the late Alexander DePhilippe, in 1953 on a blind date that was set up by one of her loyal customers. They welcomed 3 children and were happily married for 35 years until Alexanders passing in 1989.

​For over 20 years, she was a passionate volunteer at Taylor Hospital, and an active member of Ridley Park Senior Club and Ridley Park Swim Club. You could find Gloria soaking up the sun at the shore or on her balcony, watching a movie (preferably a musical), taking long walks around the neighborhood, and gossiping with friends and neighbors. She rarely missed an episode of Lawrence Welk and Wheel of Fortune. Later in life, Gloria traveled to Italy and Hawaiiwhere she had an unforgettable helicopter tour of the Hawaiian islands. She will be missed for her humor, her feistiness, her candy, her hair braiding ability, and her unbreakable spirit.
 


Gloria is predeceased by her parents, John and Adele Urbani (nee Testoni), brother Robert Urbani, twin sister Flora Urbani, husband Alexander DePhilippe, son John DePhilippe, and daughter Donna DePhilippe


Gloria was a dedicated mother to David DePhilippe, a devoted Gram to 3 grandchildren: Nicole Dennison (Patrick), Dana Cook (Timothy), and Mark DePhilippe (Jamie), and a loving GG to 6 great grandchildren


Friends and family are invited to her Funeral Mass on Friday March 7, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church 501 Milmont Ave. Milmont Park, PA. Friends may call after 9:30AM at the Church. Interment will follow at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.

James P. Sherry, Jr.

​James Patrick “Jim” Sherry, age 93, passed away on February 25, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Charlene Marie (née Bartenbach), with whom he shared 67 years of loving marriage.
Jim was a devoted father to six children: Charlene Mulholland (Jerry), Jeanine Sherry (Rich Kline), James Sherry (Sally), Christopher Sherry (Sue), Patrick Sherry (Lisa), and Thomas Sherry (Kim). He was blessed with thirteen cherished grandchildren: Charlene Stanton (Thomas), James Mulholland (Claire), Jacqueline, Christine, Thomas, Rebecca Smith (Will), Julia, Anna Mae, Olivia (departed to Heaven, May 26, 2024), Quin, Daniel, Connor, and Cole.
Jim was the loving son of the late James P. and Mae M. (O’Mara) Sherry. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Marie (Sherry) Miller, and brother-in-law, Edward Miller, as well as his sisters-in-law Jeanne Marie (Bartenbach) Cade, Helen Marie (Bartenbach) Lynott, and Grace Marie (Bartenbach) Bratzell. He is survived by his brothers-in-law Charles Bartenbach (Carol), Joseph Bartenbach (Donna), and Richard Bartenbach.
Jim was a proud graduate of St. James High School in Chester, PA, Class of 1949, and remained active in the alumni community throughout his life. In recognition of his dedication, he was inducted into the school’s Wall of Honor in 2022. He was a member of the 49’ers class and a Knight of St. James. After high school, he pursued his education at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School Evening Division for seven years, majoring in transportation. He was also a member of Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity.
Jim’s career in transportation spanned decades. He began working as a leather sprayer for Pioneer Belt Co. in 1950 before joining NuCar Carriers in Chester, PA in 1951. The next year, he worked in the Traffic Department at Henry Bower Chemical Manufacturing Co. in Philadelphia. In 1956, he was recruited by Acme Markets as an Assistant Traffic Manager, overseeing all contract carriers serving Acme. In 1963, Jim and Charlene established their own transportation consulting and tariff publishing firm, which they successfully grew to serve around 80 carrier clients throughout the East. A decade later, in 1973, he acquired the Motor Carriers Service Bureau, expanding its reach to serve over 700 trucking companies.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim and Charlene traveled to Ireland, Italy, England, and various parts of Europe, including a very special 60th-anniversary D-Day tour from Normandy, France all the way to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest.
Together with his wife, Jim treasured time with his family, especially at their Ocean City, NJ home on 44th Street. He also enjoyed visiting St. Michaels, MD, and traveling to see his children in Seattle, Florida, New York, Arizona, and North Carolina.
Jim and Charlene were dedicated members of St. John Chrysostom Church in Wallingford, PA for 57 years.


Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John Chrysostom Church, 617 S. Providence Road, Wallingford, PA 19086, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.


Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to St. John Chrysostom Church, St. James Alumni Association (1499 E. 9th Street, Eddystone, PA 19022), or a charity of your choice.
Jim’s legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Elizabeth D. Ferzetti

Elizabeth D. Ferzetti, 84, of Aston, PA passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025.  She was raised and educated in Eddystone and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, class of 1958.  Elizabeth worked as a supervisor of outpatient registration for 40 years at Riddle Hospital until her retirement.  Elizabeth was an exemplary employee and often received many compliments from patients about her compassion, knowledge of her job and how she often guided patients through difficult times.  Elizabeth was also very active in her children’s activities serving many years as the treasurer of the Sun Oil Little League and as a member of the Greenridge Elementary PTA. 
Elizabeth and her late husband Frank were always regulars at all their son’s baseball, basketball, soccer, and football games. She would always cheer loudly and was known for her cowbell at Sun Oil Little League All Star games. Elizabeth was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and Eagles and was also a huge supporter of St. Joseph’s University basketball.  “Libby” as known to her family and friends, always enjoyed the company of others. She was often described as the life of the party and would never let the DJ leave a wedding without playing “We Are Family.”  Libby was also very proud of her family and greatly enjoyed seeing the success of her sons, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and children of friends of the family.  Libby was always a person that family and friends knew they could count on in times of need. Those who knew Libby felt blessed to have her be part of their lives. Later in life, Libby and her husband Frank enjoyed long Saturday morning drives together where they would enjoy a trip to the casino and a good dinner together. They enjoyed a long marriage of fifty years before Frank passed away in 2015.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank T Ferzetti, Sr.; brother, Frank DiPlacido; and sister, Loretta Woods. She is survived by her sons, Frank T. Ferzetti, Jr. (Amanda), Steve Ferzetti (Jean), and Michael Ferzetti; grandchildren, Stephen, Gina, Michael, Jacob, Connor, Ryan, Frank Thomas, and Tony Goldenbusky; great-grandchildren, Jack, and Maeve; sister, Theresa Jennings; brother, Joseph DiPlacido and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Friday, February 21st at 11am at St. Rose of Lima Church, Eddystone, PA, where friends and family may visit from 10-11 am.  Burial will follow at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery.

Patricia A. Mullen

Patricia Ann Mullen, 63, died the afternoon of February 1, 2025, just one day shy of her 64th birthday.  She had fallen 3 weeks prior and sustained a head injury.  Born at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Patricia was the oldest daughter of United States Coast Guardsman CDR. James Michael Mullen and Marie Canavan Mullen both from Chester, PA and sister of Joan Marie Mullen.  She graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in 1979 and Beth Israel School of Nursing in 1981, both in New York City.

The Mullen Family settled in Palm Harbor, Florida in 1984.  Pat worked as a Registered Nurse at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital as a Neonatal Care Unit (NCU) Nurse.  Pat also became a Lactation Specialist.  Her love of helping children was seen everyday she worked.

Pat is remembered as an amazing person who was inspirational.  She gave selflessly of herself even when things were hard.  She loved being a nurse because she was able to care for those who needed her.  She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  During the last a few years of her life she tirelessly took care of both her sister and mother until their passings and organized her move to Pennsylvania so that she could be closer to family, which was very important to her.

She was welcomed in Heaven by our Lord, her father, mother, sister, her grandparents Sylvester and Catherine Canavan, Francis Mullen and Daniel and Anne (Bonner Mullen) Strain, her uncles James Canavan and Richard Desmond, her aunts Marie and Helen Desmond, as well as all her pets.

Left here on earth to remember her are her aunts Suzanne Canavan, Patricia Strain and Kathleen Strain Osborne, her uncle Paul Desmond, her cousins, Sherri Canavan-Clarke, Cindy Canavan, Jim Canavan, along with all of the rest of the Canavan, Mullen and Desmond Family cousins, her friend of 50 years Caryn Morse, and all her many friends who loved her dearly.

Services will be held graveside on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Immaculate Heart Cemetery, 1701 Market Street, Linwood, PA 19061 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be sent to The American Heart Association or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to honor Pat.

Thomas J. Boden, Jr.

Thomas J. Boden, Jr. passed away on January 30th , 2025 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center. He was born and raised in Chester to the late Thomas and Ethel Moulton Boden. Thomas was a veteran of the US Army with whom he served honorably after his graduation from St. James High School. He was a longtime employee of the City of Chester as a public servant. He also spent time working at Blockbuster Video and Chester Auto Parts. Thomas was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church in Aston, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Eileen A. Boden; daughter, Alice M. Childress and sister, Ethel Brown. He is survived by his daughters, Eileen Troutman (Paul), and Lisa Mack (Jim); 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Tom enjoyed watching the Phillies and was a movie guru. He could recite movie lines word for word. Tom was also an animal lover.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 6th at 10:30am at St. Joseph’s Church 3255 Concord Rd. Aston, Pa. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 9:30-10:30 am in church. Inurnment will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, Pa. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tom’s name to Fair Acres Geriatric Center or the Alzheimer's Association
