The Carr Funeral Home in Wallingford is now in its fifth generation of funeral service. E.F White began a funeral business in 1885 on W. 2nd St. in Chester. White later moved the business to 3rd and Norris Streets.
His son in law John P. Carr entered the business. His son John E. (Jack) Carr was raised in the funeral home. In 1955, he opened his own funeral home at 410 E. 21st in Chester. His sons, John E. (Jack) Jr. and Michael joined the business in 1965 and 1967 respectively.
In 1985, Jack and Michael moved the funeral home to its current location on Providence Rd. in Wallingford. They refurbished the building and put a small addition on the back of the building. In 1996, Jack’s son John E. Carr III joined the family business. In 1997, the addition of a large visitation room with a handicap accessible entrance was made. In 2000, the garages were added.
