Much loved Sharon Elizabeth Strachan (née Schaab) passed away peacefully at the age of 71 surrounded by family and friends on January 23rd in Media, PA after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. She was born and raised by her parents George and Anna in Penticton, BC(Canada) with her five siblings Lorraine, Irene, Wayne, David, and Richard. Growing up, Sharon was an avid skier and frequented Apex Mountain in Penticton, while also enjoying playing softball. After graduating from Penticton High School, Sharon attended the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1968. After graduation she worked at Vancouver General Hospital as a dietician, married James Strachan, and had their first child Douglas in 1972. Shortly after, the family moved to Canberra, Australia where she had their second child Gordon in 1973. In 1975 the family movedto East Windsor, NJ where Sharon graduated from Trenton State College with a masters in education and taught science for 26 years at the Community Middle School in West Windsor-Plainsboro. Sharon was known for being a passionate and caring scientific mentor to her students and she was immensely proud of having raised two sons with Ph.D. degrees in science.She loved to return to Penticton during the summers to visit her extended family and also to dote on her six grandchildren, Beckett, Connall, Margaret (Maisie), Sebastian, Elizabeth (Darcey), and Madeleine. Sharon will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her sons, her daughter-in-laws(Amy and Beth), her four surviving siblings (Lorraine, Irene, Wayne, and Richard), and as sweet and loving Grandma to her six grandchildren.
