Russell M. MacLean, 82, of Chester passed away on April 27, 2016. A lifelong Chester resident, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Sara E. Chandler. Russell was married for 45 years to Joy (Smalley) MacLean who died in 2003.
Russell was a veteran that served in the United States Navy aboard the USS WASP during the Korean War. Russell was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he became a policeman for the City of Chester where he moved within the ranks until retiring as a Captain in 1990. During his law enforcement career he was awarded for Bravery, Distinguished Marksmanship and Policeman of the Year. Following his retirement he enjoyed a part time job at the Upper Bank Nursery in Media for several years.
Russell was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 19, the American Legion, The Marine Corp League, The National Police and Troopers Association, the United States Navy WASP Veterans organization and the Association of Aviation Ordnancemen.
A devoted and loving father, he is survived by his three children, Kathryn Navin (Ronald), Mary Birney (Brian) and Scott Milus MacLean. He was predeceased by his step son James Wesley Sipple who died in 2006.
Funeral and burial will be private.
