Fremont, NH - Our father, Robert Moore, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 28th in Fremont, NH. He was under good care and a loving staff at the Colonial Poplin House. He was born in Kilgore, Texas, the son of Minnie and Robert Moore. He was a graduate of Notre Dame and Carnegie Mellon with a M.S. in Chemical Engineering. He and our mother, Abigail Foley Moore, raised eight children in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, PA. Our father worked as a Corrosion Engineer for 40+ years while living in a Philadelphia suburb. He retired at age 77.
He was an accomplished pianist and worked as the accompanist for a community choral group, The Valley Voices, for 40 years in Rose Valley, PA. He was a voracious reader, loved the classics, poetry, science fiction, and the theater. He loved taking our mom to community plays at The Hedgerow Theater and music programs in the city. He was a big fan of all sports and went to many games while his sons were participating in soccer and hockey.
In his retirement years, he organized monthly poetry readings at a senior living community in Wallingford, PA and also an annual poetry and music event at the Hedgerow Theater hosted by his good friend Emiliano Martin. His favorite musicians are George Gershwin, Claude Debussy, and Scott Joplin. While living in Kilgore, TX, as a boy, he befriended Van Cliburn as they were classmates and they remained lifelong friends. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of classical and jazz radio including the Philadelphia station WRTI. He was a proud Rotarian and an active member of a chapter in Media, PA.
He is survived by his wife, Abigail, a brother, Franklin (Seattle, WA), a daughter, Mary, seven sons, Daniel, Michael, Dewey, Christopher, Thomas, John, and Robert, and eleven grandchildren. He loved his wife Abby, who adored him, and was a lover of life.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at St. John Chrysostom Church 617 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford on Friday, February 12th at 11:00 AM. Calling hours will begin at 10:00 AM. Int. SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
