Robert P. “Bob” Powelson, age 80 of Wallingford died Sunday March 1st 2015 Retired Senior Government Manager He was born in Philadelphia and raised in Chester, Pa. He attended Chester public schools as well as PMC Prep school and graduated from Germantown Academy, where he was a member of the 1954 basketball team that won the Inter-Ac championship. He also played baseball and ran the mile in track for Germantown Academy. He served four years in the Air Force (1954-1958). He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and The Armed Forces Staff College. Mr. Powelson worked for the Federal government for 37 years, starting as a GS-9 and rising to the grade of GS-15 at age 35. He spent 10 years in Washington D.C. working for the Navy in the area of maintenance engineering and logistics management. He was the Logistic Manager for the Navy’s P-3 ASW aircraft with responsibility for world-wide logistics support. Mr. Powelson spent the last twenty years of his career working for the Navy Aviation Supply Office and the Defense Industrial Supply Center in Philadelphia as a senior executive. He received several management awards, including the prestigious Defense Meritorious Service Award, Senior Manager of the Year and the EEO Manager of the Year. He was also an original inductee into the Defense Industrial Supply Center’s “Hall of Fame”. He enjoyed playing golf and vacationing with his family, in Hilton Head SC and Palm Springs, CA. He was a member of the The Springhaven Club since 1974. His biggest golf accomplishment was getting a “hole in one” during a Member-Guest tournament. He also served on the Springhaven Board of Directors for nine years. Mr. Powelson cherished the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Wallingford. My. Powelson was predeceased by his wife “Pat” nee Sweeney (49 years) in October 2005.
