Callanan, beloved nephew of Paul Merrick (Kristin Ortt), John Merrick (Desiree),Dennis Callanan (Anne), Kathy Lynam (Chris), Stacie Geller (Mike), Kerry DeThomasis (John), beloved uncle to Christopher Patterson, and beloved to many loving cousins.
Michael was a gifted athlete, having excelled in cross-country, track, and golf, while at Cardinal O’Hara High School, Springfield, PA. He graduated from Cardinal O’Hara in 2004 following 13 years of perfect attendance. He also attended West Virginia University. He was magical on the golf course, mastering the game at a level few are ever able to achieve. Professionally, he held several important roles in the electrical industry.Michael was a proud 4th generation member of IBEW Local Union 98, Philadelphia, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Jack “Pop” Merrick, his uncles, and father.
Michael had a way of “taking over a room” and sharing his exuberance for life with everyone he encountered. He found joy in defining the rules by which the game was played and the race was run, both on the course and in life too. He was built to run the race of life as a sprinter, not as a marathoner. His race ended far too soon, but he touched the lives of many along his way and left his mark on everyone he passed as he sprinted by.
A private Mass of Christian burial will be held for Michael on Thursday, December 14, 2017. Memorial donations in Michael’s memory may be made to:
