Michael Gyda, 91, of Brookhaven, PA, passed away quietly and peacefully at his home on July 30, 2018. Mike was born and raised in Brockton, PA, to the late Michael and Mary Shud Gyda, and relocated to Delaware County, PA after his tour of duty in the United States Army, in which he served during and immediately following WWII. During that same conflict, Mike’s dear, older step brother and influential role model, Walter McLaughlin, United States Navy, gave up his life in battle, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart under President Harry Truman. Once settled in DelCo, Mike met and married his beloved wife, Louise Mary Albany, and set off to pursue a career in the construction trades. After honing his skills and developing his talent in the construction industry over several years, Mike struck out on his own to establish what would become a long and successful business in residential construction, where his superior craftsmanship, attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction was responsible for transforming not only countless homes – but as many frowns into smiles – over the course of more than 30 years in the South Eastern Pennsylvania region. An outgoing and personable gentleman who thoroughly enjoyed a good card game, bowling match, ball game or horse race, he will be missed by many.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Louise Mary, and their children, Dr. Michael Gyda and Daughter-in-Law Dr. Susan Ho, Geraldine Gyda, and Kevin Gyda, and grandchildren Gary M. Gyda and Christina M. Gyda (children of Kevin and Barbi Gyda), along with many extended family members and friends.
Friends and family are cordially invited to celebrate Mike’s long and joyful life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at Carr Funeral Home, 935 S. Providence Road (Route 320), Wallingford, PA, from 9:30 - 11 AM, followed by a short service.
