Mary C. (Yorden) Slowik, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on March 14, 2019.
Born in St. Benedict, PA, Mary was a resident of Wallingford for over 78 years.
Mary was a woman ahead of her time, frequently working in male-dominated fields. She was a longtime employee of Sacksville Mills, and then worked for Sears as a tire installer in the automotive service department, where she was frequently praised for her professional work and excellent customer service.
She was always more comfortable working with tools, operating heavy construction equipment, or riding a lawnmower than working in the kitchen, and if her friends or family were experiencing car problems, the first stop was always Mary’s shop.
After her retirement from Sears, Mary could be found working in her yard or shop, or taking care of her 4 grandchildren. She also became a fixture at the Nether Providence Township meetings, advocating for the underrepresented.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Michael Yorden and Victoria Novertia Pavlock, her brothers Stephen P. Yorden (Rosella), Raymond E. Yorden (Doris), and James J. Pavlock, and her two sisters Martha L. Saunders (James), and Stella Ponchock of Carrolltown.
Survivors: Daughters, Sandra O’Brien (Charles), Patricia Banta (Daniel), and Paulette Slowik-Speaker (Richard); her 4 grandchildren Antoinette Grdinich (Greg), Mandy Repice, Kyle Banta, and Dixon Speaker; 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Saturday 8-10 a.m. at Carr Funeral Home, 935 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, PA 19086.
Service: 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Internment: Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills, PA
Contributions: No flowers please (Mary is allergic); Contributions in her memory to Garden City Fire Company, No.1 Station 65, 412 Moore Road, Wallingford, PA 19086
