 | Margaret M. Bergdoll (Sister Clare), age 85, of Parkside, PA passed away on Thursday Oct. 16,2014 at CK Hospice at Taylor Hospital. Born in chester, PA, Peggy was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Ward) Bergdoll. She attended St. Robert's Grade School in Chester and Notre Dame High School in Moyland, PA, Class of 1947. While in high school, she played on the varsity basketball team and also on the Turret Intercollegiate Team of 1945. In August of 1948, Peg entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in Ilchester, MD taking the name Sister Clare. She served with the good sisters until 1984. She attended Trinity College in Washington, D.C and Villanova University where she earned her Master's Degree in both secondary school science and library science. Besides teaching high school, Peggy taught at several elementary schools in PA, NY and MD but she preferred teaching at the high school level. Her favorite math subject was algebra. Among the PA schools where she taught were: St. Bernadette, Drexel Hill, Notre Dame High School, Notre Dame Academy, Villanova, O'Hara High School and Little Flower High School, Phila. Since she was a very young girl, she had watched the Bergdoll Milk Baseball games and grew to love the sport. She became an avid Phillies fan right up to the last game of this season. As a pastime Peg enjoyed reading mysteries and doing the daily crossword puzzle but her beloved cat, Little Girl, overshadowed all other diversions. As long as she was able, Peg fed all the stray cats in the neighborhood. Peg is survived by her cousin, Bill Bergdoll and his wife Judy, cousin Ron Bergdoll and wife Hava, other cousins, many friends in the Sisters of Notre Dame and many other loving friends. Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to her funeral mass at 10:30am in Our Lady of Charity Church, 231 Upland Rd., Brookhaven, PA. Friends may call at the church after 9:30am.
