Lewis A. Maylath, 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 18, 2022. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Maylath, son Richard Maylath (Barbara), his beloved grandchildren Carly Maylath and Griffin Maylath and sister-in-law, Margaret Chapman. He was predeceased by his wife Loretta (Quinn) Maylath and son Robert Maylath.
Lewis grew up in Hazleton, PA and later spent the majority of his life in Wallingford, PA. He faithfully served his church, his country and his family. He cherished his time as a member of St. John Chrysostom Church for over 54 years, lending his voice to the choir and fulfilling the roles of lector, usher, Eucharistic Minister and member of the Charismatic team. He served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948.
Lewis earned a degree in chemistry from Drexel University when his children were small, attending school at night for eight years while working at Westinghouse. He was an early developer of computer systems at Smith Kline & French and enjoyed a full and robust career there. After retiring, he and Loretta enjoyed traveling and making friends around the world. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games, tennis and bowling.
He will be missed by his family and long-time caregiver Ruby, but they can find comfort in his faith and their belief that he is reunited with Loretta and Robert. His funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 27 at 11am at St. John Chrysostom Church in Wallingford, PA. Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday from 10-11am in church. Burial will follow at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.
