Joseph (Joe) H. Rafferty, 97, of Woodlyn died Aug 8 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. He was born in Woodlyn to John and Bridget (Harrison) Rafferty. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Bailey. He commenced work with the Ridley Township Public Works Dept. on May 1, 1951. He was promoted to Asst. Superintendent in 1961 and to Superintendent on Feb. 7, 1962 where he served with distinction until his retirement in 1990.
He was a member of VFW Post 6349 in Woodlyn and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church in Milmont Park.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth Ann (Marshall) Rafferty in 1979 and by his dear friend Margaret Mildon. He was the brother of the late Catherine Coates, Thomas Rafferty, Helen Brennan, Margaret Rafferty and John Rafferty.
Mr. Rafferty is survived by nieces and nephews Catherine Pagano of FL, Eleanor Schopf of Folsom, Mary Ann Crowder of Clayton, NJ, John Rafferty Jr. of Aston and Michael Rafferty of FL. Also several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Monday Aug. 17 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Church, Milmont and Belmont Aves. Milmont Park. Friends may call from 9 to 9:45 AM at the Church. Int. SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
