Joseph G., Jr., Age 80, formerly of Newtown Square, PA, passed away peacefully December 13, 2020 in West Chester, PA. He was the Beloved husband to the late Elaine (nee Blais). He was the Beloved father of Dawn-Marie Clark (Grand doggy Chewey), the late Gary Clark, and Timothy (Melissa) Clark. Additionally, he was a loving grandfather to (Tim's) Carley (Alex) and daughter, the great granddaughter- Charlotte; Callie, Collin; and (Gary's) Nick, Christian, and Jayden. He is survived by his dear sister-in-law Lois Vita (nee Blais) and the late David L.Vita, and uncle to the late David M. and Christine (Nicolas) Tini and daughter Gina; along with many loving cousins and dear family friends including: Frank Yeager, the late Michele Sheppard, Armand Assari, and Dave Toms.
Joe Jr. was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph G. Clark, Sr. and late Bertha (nee Yuengling). He graduated from Sharon Hill High School where he was baseball team captain. Joe Jr. kept in touch with many high school classmates who meant a lot to him, Phil & JoAnne Singley, Bill Hassan, Mary Lou & Tim Krauss, and Bill Grimm, to name a few.
Joe Jr. had an enormous love of cars. He was endearingly known in the community for gassing and fixing your car for over 65 years. He began working alongside his father, Joe Sr. where Sr. had two Gulf stations in Delaware County. Together they were also driving car hookups from PA to South Carolina. Joe Jr. then opened his first Esso\Exxon station at Fairview & MacDade Blvd in Woodlyn, PA in 1964.
After marrying Elaine, the two lived and worked in Delaware County for the remainder of their lives except for the short stint in South Carolina. Joe was a very hard-working man sometimes working 24/7 and always plowing during snow storms (as we speak we are getting one). So apropos for Joe Jr. at this time of his passing! At the Woodlyn station in the 1980s, Exxon awarded Joe Jr. for pumping more than "A Million Gallons of Gas" in a years period over a few consecutive years.
He and Elaine with the 3 kids worked and ran a total of 3 Exxon stations for 29 years, with one being in Greenville, South Carolina. Joe Jr. and Elaine later ran and worked at Clark's Tire and Auto in Swarthmore, PA where in this business they did a lot of towing for AAA and other road clubs.
Joe Jr. had a great love for sports and if you knew Joe, today or back then, you knew that there were no other teams but the LA Rams, Atlanta Braves, and Boston Celtics. By the way, he was to be submitted to the Phillies team as a prospect to play for them, but instead took on a new business of his own. Joe Jr. and Elaine also shared a love for country music together and loved taking their family and friends to see country artists in concert.
Joe Jr. and Elaine were known as good people who helped others whenever and wherever they could. They had a lot of devoted employees, customers, vendors, and friends throughout the years. The Clark family would like to extend a special THANK YOU to those who have touched their lives in special ways (and continue to do so!): the Law families, Rod & Pat, Dr. Kochar & Staff, Willis, Robbie, Tony, Tommy B, Tom B, Tim H, the Lancellot Family, Carmen and Sandy, Raja, George Rose, Wisda Jr., Ian, McGaughlin, Burna family, Archie, Ray, John P, Woody, Wanda, Lionel, the late McMillian brothers, Roger, LaSpada, Pete, Scott, and so many many more unmentioned. Thank you
Joe is Beloved and will be sorely missed by All. Please be comforted to know that he is reunited in Heaven with his Beloved Wife of 50 years, his parents, uncles, and of course his infamous German shepherds and huskies. Joe’s funeral will be held privately with a "Celebration of Life" to be scheduled at a later date due to current restrictions.
