Ihor M. Lesyk (1955-2021)
Ihor M. Lesyk, 65, of Wallingford, PA passed away on February 6, 2021 at the home he shared with his sister, Lubow. He had been in declining health for over 2 years. Ihor, the youngest of four children of Wolodymyr and Eufrosyna Lesyk, was born in Chester, PA on December 20, 1955. The family then moved to Wallingford were Ihor resided from 1971.
Ihor graduated from St. James High School, Chester in 1973 and furthered his education and earned the BBA degree from The Pennsylvania State University in 1979. After graduation he was employed as an auditor for Spencer’s Gifts, Pleasantville, NJ. Over the course of the next 15 years, he traveled extensively both by air and car for his work. He had the opportunity to have visited, whether for work or pleasure, all 50 of the United States. His other interesting included skiing, photography, cooking, and taking care of his dogs. He also assisted in the operation of the family business, Lesyk’s Market, in Chester until it was sold in 2000.
In 1981, Ihor traveled with Rotary International to Australia and New Zealand. Then in 1991 he had the distinction to serve as a liaison and was involved in the humanitarian relief flight of medical equipment for Ukraine and flew abroad “Mriya”, the world’s largest cargo plane from Philadelphia to Kyiv. Ihor again visited Ukraine in January 1996, this time with his mother by surprising her family for Ukrainian Christmas. He also visited relatives in Canada numerous times and vacationed in Argentina and Austria.
Ihor briefly ran 2 franchises of Liberty Tax Service and then decided to turn to private accounting and tax preparation while still in good health.
Lubow W. Lesyk (1948-2021)
Sadly, just 25 days after her brother Ihor’s passing, Lubow (Luba), 72, passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2021 at her home in Wallingford, PA. Luba, the oldest of four children of Wolodymyr and Eufrosyna Lesyk, was born in Munich, Germany on October 21, 1948. At just 9 1/2 months of age, she and her parents immigrated to the United States arriving in Boston, MA on August 9, 1949 and eventually settling in Chester, PA.
In her teen years Luba was a member of “PLAST”, the Ukrainian Scouting Organization, and enjoyed attending summer scout camps in the Catskills in upstate NY which enriched her in the Ukrainian culture. She liked to read and do crossword puzzles.
Luba was a graduate of the 1966 class of Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA. She earned both her BA and MA degrees in Slavic Language Studies from Temple University. She was fluent in English, Ukrainian, Russian, and Polish. Luba began her employment in 1976 with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in New York City as a language specialist. She also worked in San Francisco, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia. Her career with the FBI lasted 33 years in the same capacity until she retired in 2009.
Both Ihor and Luba were nurtured in the Ukrainian Catholic Faith and were members of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Chester, PA. They attended the parish elementary school, taught by The Sisters of St. Basil the Great. They were especially proud of their Ukrainian heritage instilled by their parents. They were predeceased by their parents, Wolodymyr (1981) and Eufrosyna (2006), and brother Bohdan Lesyk (1982).
Let behind to grieve are Oksana Stukas, their only sister and her son, Peter John Stukas III, their only nephew of Swedesboro, NJ, Rev. Roman Petryshak, his wife Natalya, and their son Damyan, cousins of Berwick, PA, Wolodymyra Slywotzky, Luba’s Godmother, of New York, NY, and numerous cousins in the U.S., Canada, Ukraine, and Argentina.
Funeral Mass to be concelebrated on Thursday, March 18, 2021 by Rev. Daniel Troyan, Pastor of Holy Myrrh Bearers Ukrainian Catholic Church, Swarthmore, PA and Rev. Roman Petryshak, Berwick, PA.
There will be no viewing. Service with commence at 11:00 am at Holy Myrrh Bearers Church, located at 900 Fairview Road, Swarthmore, PA followed by burial at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in their memory would be appreciated to either Holy Myrrh Bearers Ukrainian Catholic Church, 900 Fairview Road, Swarthmore, PA 19081 or to The Sisters of St. Basil the Great, 710 Fox Chase Road, Jenkintown, PA 19046.
