Frank R. Clifford, formerly of Ithaca, died peacefully on March 9, 2016 at The Residence at Glen Riddle in Media, PA. Mr. Clifford was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of James and Maude Clifford, and the youngest of six children. During World War II, Frank served as a fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross and two Air Medals. He graduated from Cornell University, and subsequently worked at Cornell in the Development Office and as Director of Alumni Affairs. He also served as Vice President of Development for Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. Frank and his late wife, Jean, visited China, Japan, South Africa, and many countries in Europe as hosts of Cornell Alumni Tours. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Ithaca Country Club. Frank and Jean rarely missed a Cornell Hockey game in 35 years. He is survived by three sons, Richard (Nancy) of Annapolis, MD; Mark of Hilton Head, SC; and John of Marietta, GA; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Frank’s life will be held in Ithaca at a date to be announced.
