Francis J. Desmond Jr., 95, of Wallingford passed away December 25, 2016 at home. Born in Chester, he was the son of the late Francis and Edna (nee Hoffman) Desmond. He attended St. Michael’s School and Chester High School. Mr. Desmond served in the United States Navy as a Gunner’s Mate during World War II. He worked for Sun Ship as a coppersmith retiring in the early 1980s. He was a 79 year member of Moyamensing Hook and Ladder Company and was an avid Phillies fan. Mr. Desmond was a member of St. John Chrysostom Church.
Mr. Desmond was predeceased by his wife Loretta M. Pizzoli who died in 1951, his wife of 50 years Audrey M. Smith who died in 2007, his son-in-law Hubert M. Dewees, and his sisters Mary D. Magrogan and Anna M. Iannacci.
Mr. Desmond is survived by his children Mary Teresa Dewees of Upper Chichester, Francis J. (Candice) Desmond III of Chester, Evelyn Desmond of Wallingford, and his 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who called him Pop-Pop or George .
