Elisabeth Blanchard Shawl, 82, of Wallingford, PA passed away at home on May 23, 2023. She was born in San Mateo, CA to Malcolm A. and Jean Allin Blanchard and was raised in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from the National Cathedral School, in Washington, D.C. in 1958, and Oregon State University in 1962. Betsy travelled all over the world in her 20s, with New Zealand a favorite destination. She also worked as a scientific data analyst at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory in Berkeley, California and at the Oregon Graduate Center in Portland, Oregon, where she met her husband of over 50 years, Edward T. Shawl. After two years in State College, PA, Betsy and Ed moved to the Philadelphia area, eventually settling in Wallingford, PA.
She was very active in various organizations over the years, especially as a 64-year member of the P.E.O. International Sisterhood. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She maintained a lifelong love of travel, making trips to Asia, the Middle East and Africa in her 60s, and was always happy to share stories of her many adventures.
Betsy is survived by her husband, Edward Shawl and daughters Catherine (Richard) Regalado of Highwood, IL and Jeannie Shawl of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by her brothers Sandy (Susan) Blanchard of Shelton, CT and Bob Blanchard of Portland, OR, grandchildren Sarah, Anne and Matthew Regalado, niece Lauren Blanchard and nephew Mike Blanchard. She was predeceased by her son Robert Allin Shawl.
Friends and family are invited for visitation on Monday, June 19th from 10am-12pm at the Carr Funeral Home 935 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, PA 19086. A private burial will take place at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the P.E.O.
