Edwin “Ed” Bothwell, 68, of Wallingford passed away on Tuesday, May 21 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Christine Munda Bothwell; two daughters, Erica and Kristen; and brother, Charles.
Ed was born in Chester to the late Charles and Doris Bothwell. He was a member of Chester High School’s Class of 1969, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1974 with a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering.
Ed retired as the Director of Engineering at DELCORA in the summer of 2017, having first joined the authority’s engineering department in 1992. Prior to that, he worked as a civil engineer for the City of Chester for 18 years. Ed served on the Board of Directors of DELCORA for 13 years, and was a member and past president of the Chester Rotary Club. He was a parishioner of St. John’s Chrysostom Catholic Church.
Throughout his life, he rarely encountered a repair or yard project that he couldn’t tackle and complete to the utmost of standards, and as such, was a frequently sought-out advisor to family and friends in need of design and install advice. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Cape May, N.J., where he and his family vacationed every summer, and New York City, where his younger daughter resides. He had a quick-witted sense of humor, a fond appreciation for the History Channel and Dairy Queen, and a keen ability to have every answer just when it mattered most in Trivial Pursuit. What he enjoyed the most, however, was spending time with his family.
Additional survivors include nephews Randy Bothwell (Jean Jacobs) and Brendan McNamara (Gail Austin); and nieces Jean Bothwell-Falk (James) and Danielle Bothwell.
His funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 11am at St. John Chrysostom Church 617 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, PA. Friends and family are also invited to a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm and Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30am at the Carr Funeral Home 935 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, PA. Burial will follow in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
