Edward F. O’Neill, 85, of Glen Mills and formerly of Media passed away Mar. 18 at home. Mr. O’Neill was the son of Joseph and Helen (nee Fuhrman) O’Neill, raised in Chester and graduated from St. Robert’s School and St. James High School. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He worked as an inspector for Sun Oil for over 40 years where he was known as “Rocky.”
Mr. O’Neill was devoted to youth sports in Media especially as a coach or umpire for the Rose Tree Colts, Media Little League and Nativity BVM Boxing. He was honored as Media Old Timers Man of the Year in 1988. He loved to fish the New Jersey coast and cheer the Penn State Football Team. He was a member of St. Cornelius Church and a former longtime member of Nativity BVM Church.
Mr. O’Neill was preceded by his wife Catherine (nee Dotts) O’Neill, brothers Joseph and George R. O’Neill and his friend and companion Anne Alimonti.
He is survived by his sister Marie Craig (Michael) of Wenonah, NJ and brother James (Deborah) of Milford, DE, children Edward Jr. (Pamela) of Downingtown, John (Sheryl) of Media, Brendan (Elizabeth) of East Longmeadow, MA, Brian (Susan) of Elkton, MD, Megan (Brian) Lamison of Refton, PA, Matthew (Jennifer) of Media, and Colin (Barbara) of Morton. He will be remembered affectionately by his 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild as “Papa Bear.”
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Friday Mar. 23 at 10:00 AM in Nativity BVM Church 30 E. Franklin St. Media, PA 19063. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at Carr Funeral Home 935 S. Providence Rd. (Route 320) Wallingford or on Friday from 9 to 9:45 AM at the Church. Int. SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
