1926-2015 Edward A. Gallagher a 52 year resident of Ridley Park died March 15, 2015 at Manor Care at Mercy Fitzgerald surrounded by his family. Mr. Gallagher was born in Media the son of Edward A. and Anna nee Fitzpatrick Gallagher. He grew up in the Sun Hill section of Chester and he graduated from St. James High School in 1944. Ed was a board member of the St. James Alumni Association and won âThe Magnificent Bulldog âaward in 2005. Ed was employed as a Senior Material Engineer at Boeing specializing in composites for the blades on helicopters for 27 years retiring in 1987. After retiring he and his wife Allene loved to travel and visited many states and were involved in Elder Hostel Program. He was a volunteer with Taylor Hospice for 20 years and with Riddle Hospital Cancer Unit. He was a member of Men of Malvern Palm Sunday Group which honored him 2 years ago for being 25 year retreatant and a member of Commodore Barry Division of AOH. Ed was a basketball referee where he was in demand for high school and college games but he devoted his time to time to the local boys clubs and at St. Madeline where he mentored many young boys and men including some famous NBA referees. Ed did research on the Gallagher family traveling to Ireland two times to gather information about the family. He was a member of St. Madeline Church in Ridley Park Ed had a deep faith and relationship with God. He was a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD for a number of years at St. Madeline. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Allene Hanna, his children Mark (Jodi) of College Park, MD, Kevin (Bonnie) of Ridley Park, Susan Gallagher of Wallingford, David of New Albany, IN, and Amy Gallagher (Dallas) of Philadelphia, grandchildren Claire, Erin, Rebecca, Lisa and great grandson Lucas, two sisters Dorothy Mitchell of Glen Mills and Anne Gallagher of Media. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Friday at 10:30 A.M. St. Madeline Church Penn St. & Morton Ave. Ridley Park where friends may call from 9:00 A.M. to 10:15 A.M.
