Dorothy Mae Smith McKinney died on July 10th at Bryn Mawr Hospital. She was the devoted and beloved wife of the late Thomas Edward McKinney. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. They traveled in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Iceland, Egypt, Europe, North Africa, Asia, United States and Canada. She was the mother of Thomas E. McKinney, Jr. of Brookhaven, PA and Timothy B. McKinney of Delaware.
Mrs. McKinney taught in the Chester Upland School District for 27 years. She taught English, Nutrition, Foods and Crafts in both middle school and high school. She was a former teacher in Notre Dame High School, Moylan, Rose Valley, where she taught Biology and Spanish. She was also a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She attended St. Joseph’s University and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Drexel University.
She enjoyed and loved her family, her friends, her many students, and teaching. She is the daughter of the late Benjamin Rumford Smith and Catherine Downing Smith. She is survived by her beloved son, Thomas E. McKinney, Jr.; niece, Alison Lynch; Godchild, Lee Anne McCarthy; Two favorite cousins, Sarah Pulcini and Margaret Tillman; good friends, Philmarie DiGuiseppe and Margaret Manocchio; Many other friends and relatives.
Her funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 15th at 10am at St. John Chrysostom Church 617 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, PA. Friends and family are invited to call on Friday evening from 6-8pm and again on Saturday morning from 8:30-9:30am at the Carr Funeral Home 935 S. Providence Rd. (Rte 320) Wallingford, PA. Burial will follow in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. Donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
