Christopher Abbott, of Media, passed away on June 3, 2021. He was a retired skilled tradesman in the printing industry for Citywide Press in Philadelphia and Armotek Industries in Collingswood, NJ. Chris graduated from St. Robert School in Chester, PA in 1968 and then from St. James High School in 1972 where he was an Advanced Placement Scholar and a member of the school Football Team. Chris then went on to attend the Pennsylvania State University, Delaware County where he participated in the ROTC Program.
He was a member of Nativity BVM parish in Media, PA where he was active in their Rosary at Fair Acres ministry and volunteered at St. John’s Hospice. Chris was also a benefactor of the St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, SD.
In retirement, he was a caregiver for his parents. He was a patron to many causes and needy people near and far. His kindness and generosity had no bounds. He was also a Gift of Life donor. Chris was an avid outdoorsman, bow hunter, motorcyclist, and traveler. He formerly was a Civil War re-enactor and an avid collector of reptiles and amphibians. Well-read, he was knowledgeable about many subjects, including science and nature; history, especially military history; Native American culture and artifacts; religion, and geography. Chris had a blue-collar work ethic coupled with a PhD intellect! Chris possessed clear and practical insights, which he shared freely with others. He loved to hear and share jokes and funny emails.
Chris thoroughly enjoyed a variety of music, especially singers, Melanie, Cat Stevens, and Jim Croce. He listened to music every day and loved to play his guitar. Fond of coffee, pizza, hoagies, and cheese steaks, he was a regular customer of Willow’s Garden Café, Apollo’s, the Court Diner, and of course, Wawa in Media. Chris was a loyal friend to many and a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle.
He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice W. and Margaret Frances (Joy) Abbott; brothers, William B. Abbott and Maurice E. Abbott; brother-in-law, Timothy Rumsey.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Fulton Highland (Carl); granddaughter, Eva Rose Highland; brothers, Anthony Abbott (Carole), Arthur Abbott, Geoffrey Abbott (Doreen), Gregory Abbott (Fida); sisters, Mary-Joy Grapin (Ronald), Judith Rumsey, and Catherine McKittrick (Dan); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 15th at 11am at Nativity BVM Church 30 E. Franklin St. Media, PA 19063. Friends and family are invited to call from 10-11am in church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Nativity at the above address are appreciated.
