
Christine C. Shiiba, 55, of Swarthmore passed away on Wednesday August 18 at her home. She was born in Philadelphia to Albert and Regina Ciesielka. Christine was a graduate of Morristown High School and then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Later in life she also earned a Master’s degree in Theology from St. Charles Seminary. After college, Christine moved to Japan to work in the JET English language program. She also worked in Japan as an electrical engineer for Texas Instruments. She had two children with her husband, Atsushi, while in Japan and then three more when they moved to the United States. Christine prided herself in caring for her family and home-schooling each of her children for periods of time throughout their lives.
She also worked in pastoral care ministries and was active with youth groups in several churches including St. John Chrysostom, St. Katharine Drexel, and Our Lady of Lourdes. Christine was involved with her children’s activities, especially as a soccer mom. She also enjoyed her time as a ballet dancer and taking walks around Swarthmore with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Ciesielka. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Atsushi Shiiba; children, John, Thomas (Stacey), Mark, Maria, and Joseph; mother, Regina Hoffman; sister, Denise Valentine (Alastair); brother, Albert Ciesielka (Ellie).
Friends and family are invited to her viewing on Sunday, August 22nd from 2-5 pm at the family’s home 16 S. Princeton Ave. Swarthmore, PA. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11am at St. John Chrysostom Church 617 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, Pa 19086. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
