Our mother, Betty Mary Biglin, died peacefully on the morning of May 5, 2021 after a long illness. She was born in Philadelphia, one of 11 children of Donato and Amelia Aquilino, 7 of whom survived to adulthood. Betty was a proud 1953 graduate of Overbrook High School and enjoyed planning and participating in her High School reunions in later years. She continued her education at Our Lady of Angels College (now Neumann University) and Delaware County Community College. She worked for many years as a Secretary and Office Manager in the Real Estate industry.
She was dedicated to her family and was the person many in her extended family/neighbors turned to in times of need. She was organized, pragmatic and had a can-do energy that was palpable. She appreciated a good party and made sure we celebrated all major events/holidays with food, friends and family. She helped in her children’s schools and attended sports and music events, cheering (loudly) from the sidelines. She was frugal and environmentally conscious before it was hip, much to her children’s embarrassment. She loved old movies and had an encyclopedic knowledge of Old Hollywood. She was a great cook, and Grandma’s Sunday pasta dinners with sausage and gravy (NOT ‘sauce’) are fondly remembered by her grandchildren. She also loved music, particularly Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and anything on WPEN.
She had a long time group of friends - the legendary Card Club - who played cards/drank/laughed/traveled/had fun together for over 40 years. She was close to her younger sister Angie whom she leaned on, laughed with and had adventures with over decades. She loved reading, history and travel and was fortunate enough to travel to the UK, the Netherlands, Hawaii and throughout the US, as well as to Italy multiple times to reconnect with distant family.
We remember her as she was: her humor, her sharp mind, her memorable sayings, and her love and devotion to her husband of 43 years, Bob. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Bob, her brothers Mikey, Rocco, Johnny, her sister Dolly and her dear childhood friends Diane and Beverly. She is survived by her brother Danny, sister Angela, three children: Bob Jr (Sally), Peggy McGarrity (Tim), and Michael (Heidi) and her grandchildren Samantha, Nicholas, Tessa and Charlotte. The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care their Mom received at the Meadows of Shannondell in Audobon, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday May 11th at 11am at St. John Chrysostom Church 617 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, Pa. Friends and family are invited to call from 10-11am in church. Burial will follow in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Betty’s memory to the American Alzheimer’s Association or to ChildFund, a children’s charity Betty supported for over 45 years.
