Anne (nee Haddock) Carr, a 40-year resident of Aston and more recently a resident of Brookhaven, died Sept. 10 at St. Martha's Manor in Downingtown. Anne was born in Chester to Charles and Anna (nee Gallagher) Haddock. She graduated from St. Robert's Elementary School, Notre Dame High School Moylan and Immaculata University.
She taught in the Chester Upland School district and then worked for the Fireman Fund's American Insurance Company becoming the first female underwriter in their history. She left work to raise her family and later returned as a teacher's aide for Penn-Delco School District. She then worked for Our Lady of Angels Convent. Anne finished her career working for State Farm Insurance in Concord Twp., retiring in 2004.
Throughout her life Anne's main focus was raising her family. Her pride and joy were her six children and she especially loved attending their sporting events. As her children grew into adults, Anne loved to spend time with her 12 grandchildren and go to their events as well. She looked forward all year to the annual family Christmas party. Her home was always open to her family and friends. Anne took great pleasure in acknowledging everyone's birthdays and anniversaries with cards. She was an active member of St. Joseph's in Aston where her six children attended grade school and received a Catholic education. Anne supported various causes including Pro-Life and Autism Awareness.
Anne is survived by her husband of 47 years John E.(Jack) Carr Jr., of Brookhaven, her children John (Lynn) Carr of Garnet Valley, Brian (Maureen) Carr of Downingtown, Linda (Mike) O'Connor of West Chester, Joseph (Trisha) Carr of Aston, Kevin (Katie) Carr of Newtown Square, Matthew (Valerie) Carr of Hockessin, DE, 12 grandchildren, her brother Charles (Donna) Haddock of Trinidad, CA and her sister Mary (Pat) Corsaro of Westtown.
