
Andrew G. Snyder Jr., 91 passed away Sunday September 4, 2016 after a brief illness.
Andrew was born on July 26th , 1925 in Chester, Pa. to the late Andrew and Regina Snyder. He earned a scholarship to St. Joe’s Prep where he was a multi-sport athlete and graduated in June of 1943. Soon after he enlisted in the Army and served with US 7th Armored Division during World War II. During Operation Aintree he was captured in the Battle of Overloon in the Netherlands on October 4th, 1944. and held in captivity for eight months.
Upon returning home he completed his B.A. in business administration at St. Joseph’s College in three years and married Regina McDermott in 1950. They moved to Swarthmore in 1965 to raise their three sons (Michael, Stephen, and David).
Andrew was employed with Reuben H. Donnelly for his entire 37 year career, rising to National Account Manager for North America and retired early in 1987 at age 62.
He was active in community affairs, including coaching youth sports in Swarthmore. He was past President of Swarthmore Recreation Association (SRA). He was known as a mentor and counselor for many. Friends and family described him as passionate, spirited and engaging. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Regina; children Michael (Maggie) Snyder, of Harleysville; Stephen (Kathy) Snyder, of Cary, N. Carolina; David (Peggie) Snyder, of Wallingford; his bother James (Jean) Snyder and sister Margaret (Gerald) Masse; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor (John) Reardon.
There will be a funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday September 17th at St. John Chrysostem Parish , 617 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, Pa. preceded by visitation at 10 AM.
