Marilyn Claire McCauley (nee Quinn) May 7, 1944 – July 30, 2026
Marilyn was born May 7th, 1944, to single mother Loretta Quinn of Philadelphia, PA. From that day on, her grandparents, aunts and uncles encircled little Marilyn with love and pride, providing a family bond which continues today. After her mother married John Steer, Marilyn not only gained a loving father but her fiercely loved siblings; Janet Steer Slaton (Gerald,) John (Jack) Steer (Diane) and Joseph Steer (Delores.) In her late teens, Marilyn worked at the Hot Shoppes as a car hop where she met a line cook, John McCauley. They married in 1962 and started their 46-year marriage. They resided in various towns of Delaware County including Ridley Park and Aston where they enjoyed lifelong friendships with many neighbors.
Marilyn worked at Sears at the Granite Run Mall and Lawrence Park until her retirement when she moved to Bear, DE. In Bear, Marilyn again, was lucky enough to have some very special neighbors. Marilyn and her husband learned quickly what parenting entailed as they were instrumental in the rearing of her own siblings. But Marilyn’s true motherhood started when she had John, Jr., Maureen (Joseph,) Hugh (Donna,) and Michelle (Eric.) She raised her children steeped in her strong Catholic faith and a “nun like” discipline. Nothing got past Marilyn, her children can attest to it. Marilyn, as a highly favored aunt and grandmother, sealed the family bond even tighter. Her best times were spent with her 10 grandchildren, 19 nieces and nephews and 27 (and still counting) great nieces and nephews.
Marilyn will be lovingly remembered by her family not only for her delicious cooking but for her sense of humor, her solid advice and her loving hugs. Marilyn, at 82 years old, is preceded in death by many special people which enabled her large collection of funeral prayer cards. She treasured these memories and often enjoyed a cup of coffee with a slice of cake while she perused them.
