John “Jack” Wood Sr. passed away peacefully at home on August 7th, 2026. Jack was born on August 31, 1931, to the late William and Marie Wood in Ridley Park, PA. Jack was raised in Essington, PA, and a 1949 Bulldog graduate from Saint James High School.
Jack was a proud Union Steelworker and shop steward at Lansdowne Steel for 35 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandsons, and traveling on many bus tours of the USA with his wife Maureen. He loved sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and Coach Vince Lombardi and Notre Dame football. Jack played the banjo and marched in many 1950s Mummers Day Parades. He also loved playing the lottery every day hoping to win the “big one.” Jack was a prankster, storyteller (including some whoppers) and enjoyed his life.
Jack is predeceased by and joins in heaven his beloved wife of 70 years Maureen Wood (nee Maillie), his sisters, Alice Buck, and Anne Hummel; brothers William, Francis, and Charles Wood.
Jack is survived by his sister Lucy Buck, his children Judith Aydelotte (Bob), John Jr (Carol). Grandchildren Shanna (Andrew) Aydelotte, Corrie (Jarrod) Stein, and Brian Wood (Katelyn), great grandsons Jameson and Owen, Colin, and Jack. Jack was also beloved by his many nephews and nieces.
There is a special shoutout for Jack’s granddaughter Shanna and her sons Jameson and Owen for the wonderful care provided to Dad through many illnesses. We also thank the wonderful nurses and staff of Main Line Hospice for all the care they provided Dad.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday August 30th from 1 to 4 pm at the Ogden Fire House, 4300 Naamans Creek Rd, Boothwyn, PA 19061. Come wearing your favorite sports jersey to honor Dad’s love of sports.
