Patricia Ann Mullen, 63, died the afternoon of February 1, 2025, just one day shy of her 64th birthday.  She had fallen 3 weeks prior and sustained a head injury.  Born at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Patricia was the oldest daughter of United States Coast Guardsman CDR. James Michael Mullen and Marie Canavan Mullen both from Chester, PA and sister of Joan Marie Mullen.  She graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in 1979 and Beth Israel School of Nursing in 1981, both in New York City.

The Mullen Family settled in Palm Harbor, Florida in 1984.  Pat worked as a Registered Nurse at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital as a Neonatal Care Unit (NCU) Nurse.  Pat also became a Lactation Specialist.  Her love of helping children was seen everyday she worked.

Pat is remembered as an amazing person who was inspirational.  She gave selflessly of herself even when things were hard.  She loved being a nurse because she was able to care for those who needed her.  She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  During the last a few years of her life she tirelessly took care of both her sister and mother until their passings and organized her move to Pennsylvania so that she could be closer to family, which was very important to her.

She was welcomed in Heaven by our Lord, her father, mother, sister, her grandparents Sylvester and Catherine Canavan, Francis Mullen and Daniel and Anne (Bonner Mullen) Strain, her uncles James Canavan and Richard Desmond, her aunts Marie and Helen Desmond, as well as all her pets.

Left here on earth to remember her are her aunts Suzanne Canavan, Patricia Strain and Kathleen Strain Osborne, her uncle Paul Desmond, her cousins, Sherri Canavan-Clarke, Cindy Canavan, Jim Canavan, along with all of the rest of the Canavan, Mullen and Desmond Family cousins, her friend of 50 years Caryn Morse, and all her many friends who loved her dearly.

Services will be held graveside on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Immaculate Heart Cemetery, 1701 Market Street, Linwood, PA 19061 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be sent to The American Heart Association or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to honor Pat.

So sad. Pat took such good care of Joan and their Mom, and was so happy to be there with the rest of the family. Tragic she didn’t have many more years.

I did my first conference presentation with Pat at a local lactation conference. Her wisdom was immense and her guidance, I can’t even put into words. She was so calm and helpful. We miss her in St Pete, Florida. I know she helped so many babies get breastmilk in the NICU at All Children’s. I met one of their moms and she was so thankful Pat helped her so much while her baby was in NICU for months and had heart surgeries. I know she is happy to be reunited with her sister and parents. We lost a wonderful RN and IBCLC. Prayers for the rest of the family.

This is heart-breaking! Pat & I graduated in the same nursing class & worked together on the maternity floors & Neonatal ICU. We had a lot of fun times caring for our patients & interacting with their families. She was very committed to providing excellent nursing care. She loved her profession. Thank you for the memories, “matey” RIP
You have done well ❤️😇… Till we meet again…

I have known Pat for many years working at Children's Hospital in St Pete. We worked in the NICU as bedside nurses in the old/new hospitals. She was so compassionate, with endless patience for mothers wanting to breast-feed their babies (severely preterm babies do not go directly to breast, requiring BM by tube feeding for many weeks; requiring mothers to frequently pump and safely collect, store and transport BM to the Bank). She contributed to the creation of the JHACH Breast Bank and Breast Milk Donorship Program. Pat developed guidelines and education materials for nurses, doctors and families for safe collection of BM. She worked closely with Nutritionists, APRNs and docs regarding recipes to increase calories in BM, as well as thickening BM those babies at risk for complications due to difficulty swallowing. I will never forget her dry humor, love for family, and humility. Chelie Johnson

I met Pat first working in the NICU at All Children’s Hospital back in the 1990s. She had a huge heart (😂 despite having heart defect herself - she would make so many jokes about pig valves and many a pig gift did she receive over the years). I loved her humor - she would get this smile when she was about to give you a zinger. She was a great teacher and did phenomenal presentations on congenital heart disease. I hung an ornament this last Christmas that she had made for me years ago when she came to my Christmas cookie party - that ornament has always been so special to me. She has left so many memories and will be missed.

I had the honor of taking care of Pat’s mother Marie for the last 8 months before she passed..during this time Pat and I developed a beautiful bond and friendship! I’m so sorry to hear this… we were still in contact and I just assumed she was busy. Rest easy friend. I won’t forget what you taught me❤️‍🩹

Pat was a wonderful coworker at ACH! She always gave it her all in everything she did! Her ability to share knowledge with parents and staff was her gift!
Her sense of humor will also be remembered! Grateful I could work with her in the NICU.

I remember Pat as being so kind to me when I was starting as a new nurse practitioner… she always encouraged and shared her great knowledge as a NP.
