It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Horace "Hutch" Johnson III, who left us peacefully on November 13, 2024, at the age of 82. A devoted family member, passionate sailor, loving husband, and avid car enthusiast, Hutch’s life was filled with joy, appreciation, and love for the people and things he cared about most.
Born in Chester on May 31, 1942, Hutch’s passion for sailing began at a young age on the Chesapeake and continued throughout his life, sharing many cherished moments with friends and family aboard his beloved boat, Fat Chance.
Hutch also had a deep love for cars, which started as a young boy. His favorite pastime was watching car shows and discussing various cars with his family. His knowledge of automotive history was vast, and he loved nothing more than sharing stories of the cars that passed through his life, especially his 1959 MGA roadster.
But above all, Hutch was a family man. He was full of love for his spouse, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family, always making time to be present, to listen, and to care. Whether it was a family gathering, a holiday meal, or just a simple Sunday afternoon together, his presence was a source of warmth and joy to all who knew him.
Hutch is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elizabeth; his children Lisa Murphy, Hutch Johnson IV (Christine), Stephen Johnson (Demetria), and Jody Herr (Brian); his 13 cherished grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and many close friends who were like family to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Jr. and Anne (Wawraszko) Johnson, and his daughter Stephanie Thompson (Jamey).
A funeral service and celebration of Hutch’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 20th at 11:00 AM at Carr’s Funeral Home in Wallingford, PA, where we will gather to remember a man who lived with love, passion, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.  Friends and family are invited for visitation from 10am-11am.  Burial will follow in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery.
We will always treasure the memories of Hutch—a sailor, a car lover, a fisherman, and above all, a family man who left an indelible mark on all our hearts.
Fair winds and calm seas, Hutch. You will be greatly missed.

My mother Bobbi worked for Hutch for many years. He served in many ways as the male figure in my life as a young (wild) child. Thinking of him. Prayers for peace to the family.
