Gloria S. DePhilippe (nee Urbani), age 96 of Ridley Park, passed away on Saturday March 1st with family by her side. Her parents emigrated from Italy and raised Gloria along with her twin sister and older brother in Chester and Eddystone. She graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Chester and earned her cosmetology license from Wilford Beauty Academy of Philadelphia. She operated Twins Beauty Shop in Eddystone with her father and twin sister until 1954. They welcomed 3 children and were happily married for 35 years until Alexanders passing in 1989.
For over 20 years, she was a passionate volunteer at Taylor Hospital, and an active member of Ridley Park Senior Club and Ridley Park Swim Club. You could find Gloria soaking up the sun at the shore or on her balcony, watching a movie (preferably a musical), taking long walks around the neighborhood, and gossiping with friends and neighbors. She rarely missed an episode of Lawrence Welk and Wheel of Fortune. Later in life, Gloria traveled to Italy and Hawaiiwhere she had an unforgettable helicopter tour of the Hawaiian islands. She will be missed for her humor, her feistiness, her candy, her hair braiding ability, and her unbreakable spirit.
