Eileen Patricia (Rowe) Melhorn, 81, of Wallingford, Pa., died on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Eileen was born in Johnstown, Pa., on June 3, 1944 to Rev. Harold and Mrs. Estella Rowe. She was a 1962 graduate of Johnstown High School. She then attended Wittenberg University in Ohio for two years before transferring to Penn State where she graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology in 1966 with Honors. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Nittany Lions!
Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life Noel L. Melhorn on Aug. 13, 1966 in Harrisburg, Pa. The two were happily married for 59 years. Eileen worked as a speech therapist in Delaware County Public Schools for a number of years supporting them both while Noel finished his medical school and specialty training. Eileen and Noel welcomed their son, Mark, and a daughter, Melissa, and then moved to Wallingford, Pa., in 1978 where they raised their family and lived for the next 45 years. Noel and Eileen spent their final two years together at Lima Estates in Media, Pa.
Eileen’s greatest joy came from spending time with and doing things for her family. She was a proud mother and adoring grandmother of five granddaughters. Whether at family gatherings, holiday celebrations, or casual afternoons together, Eileen’s warmth and generosity created memories that will be treasured forever. She never missed a field hockey game, swim meet, chorus concert or dance recital, and she was always one of the loudest cheerleaders in the stands. Eileen’s cheerful voice and boisterous laugh is fondly remembered by many. Her family will forever cherish her unwavering support, endless love, and the joy she brought to every gathering.
Eileen was also deeply committed to her community. She gave generously of her time through volunteer work with the PTO at her children’s schools, Friends of Springfield Hospital, and many roles at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, including the nursery school committee and the choir. She loved working with children, serving as a nursery school teacher, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and through Art Goes to School, where she introduced fine art to students in local classrooms. Whenever there was an event to be organized, Eileen was the first to step up, bringing her energy, creativity and heart to every effort. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and her warm smile always lit up a room.
After Noel’s retirement, Eileen and Noel enjoyed traveling together in their RV, spending time at their second home along the Chesapeake Bay, and embarking on many travels that created wonderful memories with family and friends.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband, Noel, her children, Mark (Erika) and Melissa (Stuart), her brother, Stephen, and sister, Suzanne, as well as her five grandaughters: Emma, Abby, Sarah, Kathryn and Ellie.
