Donald J. Ainsworth Sr., 91, longtime Aston resident, died at Maris Grove Senior Living in Glen Mills on Sunday, June 21. Raised in Chester and Eddystone, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Ainsworth. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Chester and St. Rose of Lima School in Eddystone. After two years at St. James High School in Chester, he graduated Eddystone High School in 1953. He was a proud member of the Pennsylvania Military College (Widener University) Class of 1957. He remained an active alumnus his entire life, including aiding in the creation of the PMC Museum as a steering committee member and starting a three-generation line of legacy students.
After graduating artillery school at Fort Sill, Donald served in the U.S. Army Reserve where he attained the rank of captain. He taught high school mathematics for three years, including at Sun Valley High School in its inaugural year. A summer accounting job at Sun Oil Co. then turned into a 35-year career, culminating in Donald serving as the company’s Corporate Secretary from 1980-1995. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football and an avid Eagles and Phillies fan. Alongside sports, he enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore with family and friends.
Donald is predeceased by his wife Marie and sister Roberta Rafferty; survived by children Donald J. Jr. (Christine), Robert (Pam) and Diane Ferrie (Tom); four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 1901 Chester Pike, Eddystone, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 and Burial at Ss.
