Carlos D. Costa
June 22, 1931 - August 11, 2025
Carlos D. Costa, 94, of Swarthmore, passed away on August 11, 2025. Born and raised in Puerto Rico to the late Luis F. Costa and Rosa Maria Colorado, Carlos came to the United States in 1975.
A proud veteran of the Armed Forces, Carlos served during the Korean Conflict and, after re-enlisting, retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Beyond his distinguished military career, he worked as a chemical engineer for both Shell and Sun Oil. In his later years, he served the community as a medical interpreter.
Carlos had a passion for reading, volunteering, and preserving history. He dedicated time as a volunteer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and was an active member of the Philadelphia Catholic Historical Society. A devout parishioner of St. John Chrysostom Church in Wallingford, PA, Carlos served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Evelyn; his brother, Luis; and his sister, Rosa Belen.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Evelyn; his sons, Carlos Gerardo and Rafael Luis; and his beloved grandchildren, Kyler Gretz, Elizabeth Anne (Lilly), and Charles James (CJ).
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 26, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Chrysostom Church, 617 S. Providence Rd., Wallingford, PA. Friends and family are invited to visitation from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will be held privately at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
